The U.S. department of energy has announced funding of up to $78 million to support early-stage biomass development.
Organizations can compete for a portion of project funding, including projects that develop efficient conversion processes to increase the affordability of biomass and fuel.
Funds are also being used to develop affordable and sustainable non-food energy crops that can be used as raw materials for biofuels and biological products.
Rick perry, the us energy secretary, said: "by announcing funding opportunities, including algae, energy crops and all kinds of waste streams, the biomass energy resources will be more effectively into affordable biofuels, biological energy and biological products."
